Exhibition time! Caricatures for sale!

I am delighted to say that I will be holding an exhibition of some of the caricatures I have created over the past year. There a few details still to work out but it should start on Saturday 1st October at Rise Cafe, Wakefield House, 90 The Terrace, Wellington.
My caricatures are available for sale in a range of formats.
Available images at the end of this post.
For all enquiries email: bignose@hotmail.co.nz

Original Stretched Canvas Prints
(A3 - 29.7 x 42cm, 3.8cm deep)
$280 each. Two for $500.
Each image is printed onto specially imported 250gsm synthetic canvas, which has a textured but regular surface structure and a warm white tone, giving exceptional colour reproduction and great black density. The printed canvas is then sprayed with a protectant, which seals the print and protects it from scratching and water damage. After drying overnight, the canvas is then hand-stretched onto a pine frame, giving the print a 3D effect which really jumps out from the wall.
All prints are individually signed.
Postage to be arranged.

Fine Art Prints
(A3 - 29.7 x 42cm)
$75 each. Two for $130.
Each A3 image is limited to an edition of 30 and GiclĂ©e printed onto 310gsm German etching paper. All prints are individually signed and numbered.
Postage within NZ by ParcelPost ($12) With Tracking Number.
Packaged in a sturdy 65 cm long, 6.5cm diameter cardboard tube.
Overseas postage to be arranged.
No additional postage and packaging fee if you are buying more than 1 print.

Caricatures of the All Blacks Rugby World Cup Squad 2011

It's been a year and 2 weeks to the day since I started my blog and it feels like it's drawing to a successful conclusion. My caricatures will feature on the Stuff website, New Zealand's award winning news and information website. Hopefully this will lead to a few more commissions and a few further steps towards giving up the day job!

I'll also be sketching on-the-spot lightning caricatures at Frank Kitts Market this weekend and every weekend through September and October.

Richard Kahui

Just tidying up the final possibilities for the All Black squad I reckon I'm missing 4-5 others Ellis, Boric, Afoa, Flynn and Crockett and possibly a bolter or two. Final decisions will all depend on if there's any casualties from the South African trip I guess.

Anyway here's a possible, Richard Kahui, first one I've sketched with that pricey new collar!

Ali Williams speed sketch

Another screen recording, this time of tall timber Ali Williams. These clips are great to review my work and adjust my methods. The final artwork is after the clip.

Ben and Owen Franks

Sketched the behemoth Franks brothers over the weekend, very happy with the scale I managed to achieve. Also made myself a virtual gallery in an effort to persuade certain people that a real life gallery of my work would be worth a punt.

Jerome Kaino video!

I've been meaning to do something like this for awhile and finally took the plunge to figure out how to do it. The sketch took me about 80 minutes in total, but with a bit of technological jiggery-pokery I sped it up and squeezed it into 1:30 minutes! Off to add some colour to big, bad Jerome - will record that and post it soon.

Michael Jones and Zac Guildford

Did you guess correctly? Last post I showed the eyes of a commission I'd been working on, and this week I can reveal that it is The Iceman Michael Jones! The scorer of the first ever Rugby World Cup try back in 1987 will be guest speaker at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club on Thursday 28 July.

I've also restarted work on the rest of the All Blacks squad for this year's World Cup. The picture is becoming a little clearer on who will make the cut and baby faced flyer Zac Guildford looks like he'll be part of the 30 man squad.

Opportunities!?!

Well I've not produced much in terms of rugby caricatures in the last few weeks but I have been busy with the thing I find the most challenging in my wee artistic universe - promoting my work. However it all seems like this could potentially pay off in the next few weeks. I don't want to jinx anything but there are potential opportunities with magazines, paper and web-based newspapers and possible commissions and exhibitions. All exciting stuff. Whether any of them pay off is a different matter, but for now I'll just wallow in the fact that my work has been recognised and is attracting interest.

Just a sneaky peak (and a potential game of 'Guess who?') of a commission I'll finish off this weekend. I'll post a full version once I've delivered the original to the client.

I'm gonna update my rugby free blog in a bit too, so have a gander if you're so inclined at:

100 days to go!

100 days to go until the Rugby World Cup! My production of rugby caricatures has slowed slightly in the last few weeks. I've been touting my wares around all the All Blacks sponsors and whilst I get positive feedback about the quality of my work, nobody is wanting to take things further. Hopefully I get some favourable news from the NZRU in the next week or so. So I'm still stuck in my day job pushing paper around! Here's Rugby World Cup caricature number 43 by my count, a WIP Buck Shelford.

That Benji Marshall caricature I did the other week went to the Rise Up Telethon, a charity raising money for the Christchurch earthquake. I did them two version, one of Benji in his Tigers strip and one in a Kiwi strip. One of them sold at an online auction with all $700 going to charity:

The other sold at a silent auction at a function Benji was involved in:
